Britain to resume training Al-Qaeda | The Telegraph

British troops will resume training  moderate Jihadist Syrian rebels fighting Islamic State, a year after the costly US-led programme collapsed having trained almost no one.Around 20 British personnel will join the revived mission to teach basic infantry drills, battlefield medicine and skills to avoid mines and booby-traps, the Defence Secretary will announce.It is understood the troops will work at bases in Turkey and Jordan.Speaking ahead of a Paris meeting of defence ministers from countries fighting Islamic State, also known as Daesh, Sir Michael Fallon said: “Daesh are on the back foot. The RAF is already playing a leading role in the air, hitting them hard in Iraq and Syria.“Now we’re stepping up our support to moderate opposition forces in Syria, through training them in the skills they need to defeat join Daesh.”
