HEBRON (Ma’an) — A Palestinian man was injured Thursday evening after being hit by an Israeli settler’s vehicle at the entrance of the town of Beit Ummar in the southern occupied West Bank district of Hebron.

Local activist Muhammad Ayyad Awwad identified the injured man as 36-year-old Rafat Muhammad Shihada Abu Arar Masalma from the town of Deir Samit west of Hebron City.
Awwad added that the incident occurred when Masalma stepped out of his car in order to talk to his brother, who had parked in front of him on the side of the road.
He added that Masalma was talking to his brother when an Israeli settler in a private vehicle “deliberately” ran him over.
Masalma sustained several injuries across his body and face and was immediately transferred by a Palestinian Red Crescent ambulance to a hospital in Hebron City.
Awwad added that the settler fled the area, and that Israeli police later picked up the settler in a military jeep and claimed that the incident was an accident.
An Israeli police spokesperson was not immediately available for comment.

NABLUS (Ma’an) — An Israeli vehicle hit and injured an elderly Palestinian woman on Monday evening in the northern occupied West Bank.

Ghassan Daghlas, a Palestinian official who monitors settlement activity in the northern West Bank, told Ma’an that Hilweh Abu Ras, 70, was hit by an Israeli settler driving near the village of al-Sawiya in the Nablus district.
Abu Ras was evacuated to al-Najah hospital in Nablus, where doctors said she sustained moderate to serious wounds.
The settler fled the scene in the direction of an Israeli military checkpoint near the village of Zaatara, Daghlas said.
An Israeli army spokesperson told Ma’an that they were aware of the incident, but that it fell under the jurisdiction of Israeli police. An Israeli police spokesperson was not immediately available for comment.
Incidents involving Israeli settlers hitting Palestinians in the occupied Palestinian territory are a relatively regular occurrence, and are usually treated by Israeli security forces as accidents, even in cases when witnesses claim the car rammings were deliberate.
Many Palestinian activists and rights groups have accused Israel of fostering a “culture of impunity” for Israeli settlers and soldiers committing violent acts against Palestinians.
Between 500,000 and 600,000 Israelis live in Jewish-only settlements across occupied East Jerusalem and the West Bank in violation of international law, with announcements of settlement expansion earlier this year sparking condemnation from the international community.
According to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), there were a total of 107 reported settler attacks against Palestinians and their properties in the West Bank and occupied East Jerusalem in 2016.
